Claudio is currently with Investec Bank in the Shipping & Marine Finance team. Investec is a dual-listed (London Stock Exchange, FTSE 100) specialist bank and asset management group. Claudio previously worked 5 years with the Italian banking group, Intesa Sanpaolo focusing on Shipping Finance. He started his career as a seagoing Naval Officer in the combat branch of the South African Navy (Warfare Officer). His final appointment was as the Executive Officer (XO) of SAS FLEUR, in charge of 44 men. During his time in the Navy, he completed a Bachelor of Military Science (Mathematics and Nautical Science) through the Military Academy, University of Stellenbosch and a B. Comm (Hons) through the University of Cape Town.
For a change of scenery from the military, he spent a season of professional yachting in the Med, before relocating to London to complete the MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance through Cass Business School, London. He has published papers in leading industry specialised publications such as Marine Money, Lloyds Shipping Economist and International Association of Maritime Economists (Maritime Policy & Management). Claudio has served on the Executive Committee of the United Nations Association (Westminster), and his professional memberships include being a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS) and a Liveryman with Worshipful Company of Shipwrights. Claudio was recently ranked in the Lloyd’s List “On our Radar” section for the Next Generation issue and won an industry Leadership Award from. Claudio is an avid rowing, sailing and boxing enthusiast, having also represented the South African Navy on a regional and national level.
Claudio joined the SPNL board in 2009, originally being tasked with external relations and setting up the sponsorship structure.
