Practical/hands on experience for students
Port visits are organised for our members, which have open also to Plymouth University students undertaking maritime studies (as we recognise these are the “young shipping professionals of tomorrow). It is of value for them to join SPNL members, as London’s current young shipping professionals, providing these students a chance to get out from “the classroom” to gain insight into how the shipping industry works on a practical level from those who work at the heart of the shipping import and export business.
The visit lasted for a full day – which included travel to / from London, lunch, guided port tour and networking opportunity with the local business representatives, namely brokers and the Bristol Steamship Owners Association.
SPNL Chairman, Claudio Chiste said, “The strategic objectives are to promote competency for the next generation, as well as the promotion and enhancement of our maritime cluster. We seek to enhance our maritime cluster by creating a platform, in a relaxed – yet professional – setting for industry players from all aspects of shipping to engage in order to facilitate business.”
