Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS)

About Company

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is the professional body to the commercial shipping industry. Founded in 1911, the ICS was awarded its Royal Charter in 1920 and Supplemental Charter in 1984. Our primary aim is to support the commercial shipping industry with their professional standards. We do this by providing professional development and qualifications to the industry which can lead to Membership with the Institute – the only internationally recognised standard of its kind.
The Institute believes that the professionally qualified individual is better placed to make better decisions to the benefit of oneself, employer and the shipping profession globally.
With a head office in London, 24 Branches and Distance Learning Centres throughout the world, 3500 individual members and 120 company members, Membership with the ICS represents a commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards across the shipping industry worldwide.
