MEMBERSHIP Q&A
Q. What is the qualifying criteria?
A. To become a member we require that you are a young professional working in the London shipping industry. The above membership application procedure only applies to our target demographic (i.e. young shipping professionals).

Q. Why focus primarily on the younger generation?
A. SPNL was established to give shipping professionals in the early stages of their careers a platform for networking, knowledge expansion and professional development. We have focussed on young professionals as more established professionals already tend have an established network and have sufficient access to various specialist industry organisations and networking events.

Q. Why is membership to students controlled?
This is best answered considering two distinct type of students: Full-time vs Part-time,
A. FOR FULL-TIME STUDENTS
As this is a network for young professionals, membership numbers for full-time students are limited. Should you regard yourself as a professional based on your shipping background, you are encouraged to provide details of your shipping background as motivation for membership. If successful, a decision will be made whether this is as an “ordinary member” or “extraordinary member”.

A. FOR PART-TIME STUDENTS not currently working in a shipping-related field, applicants would need to motivate their eligibility (i.e. previous shipping background) to be regarded as a shipping professional, in order to be eligible for membership.

Note to students: The final decision on whether an applicant qualifies as being eligible rests with the Board. As full-time students would not automatically qualify, and would need to motivate their application to be considered for membership, motivation e-mails are to be sent to member@shippingnetwork.co.uk. Please allow for a maximum 14 day response time to allow for the administrative processing and approval of your application. If after 14 days, you have still not heard back from us, you may enquire as to the status of your application by emailing member@shippingnetwork.co.uk

Once we have approved your request, you will then be directed to the formal membership application procedure.
