Thomas Sand Malm

Thomas is currently a Norwegian 3rd year Maritime Business and Maritime Law undergraduate at the University of Plymouth and he holds the position of Chairman of the University of Plymouth Shipping Society for his second year.

He has a family with long traditions within the maritime industry as his great grandfather founded R.S Platou in the 1930s. Thomas joined the Norwegian navy before his studies where he served as an Able Seamen on a Skjold-Class corvette. After finishing his first year of study, Thomas acquired an internship with Simpson Spence & Young where he worked as a trainee broker on the Panamax dry cargo desk in both Oslo and London. After his second year of studies Thomas acquired an internship as a Sale & Purchase trainee broker for the Norwegian based offshore brokerage Uno Offshore where he is covering the Asia market for the company.

As an individual, Thomas is passionate about sport, particularly cross-country skiing. He is also a very social person that enjoys spending time to meet new people and participating as well as hosting networking events. Thomas aims to expand his and his fellow students’ network within the industry by hosting multiple networking events with industry professionals together with the University of Plymouth Shipping society and the SPNL-SW.
